Marble Floor Cleaning and Polishing in Somerset

The Story

We were asked by a Client if  we carried out Marble floor cleaning and polishing in Somerset, as he would like us to examine his floors to see if there was anything that could be done to them. They were Marble Floors and were looking  looking lacklustre and for a lovely well looked after tiled Marble floor they should be better than the present condition.

The flooring indeed had lost it’s appeal.  There was a lack of shine of the tile and they had originally been polished, but a lack of seal had allowed the floor to become etched and the floor had degraded. We explained the options to the Client, we could seal the floor, or polish the Marble floor, depending upon the Clients wishes. The Client had a preference for his Marble floor to be polished to a high degree of Shine.

Organising a Test Demonstration

We spoke to the Client on  what was possible and suggested we would be happy to return and conduct a test patch for him to evaluate the end results possible.  We returned and marked out a designated patch. We then  took the test area through stages of the floor being cleaned, 400, 800, 1200, 3000 grit diamond impregnated pads and finished with a polishing powder.. The Client  evaluated the end results. He was then happy with the end result, so we were given the job of cleaning and polishing the floor

Carrying out the work

The areas in question were an entrance hall, open plan Kitchen, Utility Room and a W.C. We had a plan of cleaning from one end to the other first, to achieve a clean area in both the tiles and the grout lines. This is done in sections, using a rotary machine with a medium stiff brush. A solution is sprayed onto the floor and then agitated into the flooring. The slurry waste is then collected via an extraction machine and a hard floor wand. The areas are then blown dry with the use of air movers, then inspected for the level of cleanliness. Once clean and dry, we set about filling a number of cracks that were visible, due to the building suffering movement in a number of areas. An epoxy resin with suitable matching dye was added to the areas and then allowed to cure. Once cured, we then began to take the floor through a similar phase of Diamond Impregnated Pads.

As before, each area was inspected for the end result before completing the whole area.

To produce the highest finish, we ended the process with a polishing powder. This is added to a metre square of flooring with water to produce a creamy finish and then driven slowly over the metre square to produce a glossy high finish. The finish achieved is above a factory shine, where the process used to produce the finish undergoes many more stages with our process methodology

The final stage

The floor machines used had been filled with a strong solution of Stone Soap & water, so the floor had been sealed during the process. We explained to the Client the methodology and the use of stone soap to produce a sealed surface. We then left instructions for use of the Stone Soap with Microfibre mopping techniques and the use of stone soap to protect and clean the floor. The results speak for themselves, the floor has an incredible shine with a high degree of protection and is a thing of beauty, a wonderful Client who is extremely pleased with the results
